About Us

Why Social Anxiety Life?

Social Anxiety Life is a campaign of understanding. It was made with the intention of helping those who do not have the disorder understand what it is like living with social anxiety. This is done through facts and personal experience. Facts present a base for understanding, whereas personal experiences, of both others and myself, humanizes the disorder. Not everyone experiences social anxiety in the same way, which is why there are a variety of experiences included. Even then, not every experience is encompassed. These experiences, though, allow for understanding not just through reading, but through feeling.

Although this campaign is targeted towards those without social anxiety, my hopes is that Social Anxiety Life can help anyone who does experience the disorder feel a little less alone, and more understood through seeing that others also experience similar feelings and situations.

Components

Research was done about social anxiety, the details of the

disorder, who is affected, how people are affected, and treatment. The research provides a foundation and facts for proper understanding of the disorder.

There are two media components to the campaign: five short videos and five infographics. The short videos are based off interviews that have been conducted. They show how other people with social anxiety experience the disorder, as each person has been affected in different ways. The infographics are informational and present some of the research in a visual format.

A list of different mental health resources is provided. There are phone numbers, websites, locations for distress centres, and a resource for information about cognitive behavioural therapy, which is a common therapy used for social anxiety disorder. Please reach out for help if you or someone you know is in need.

Behind The Campaign

Hi! My name is Jenna and I am the creator of Social Anxiety Life. That is a photo of me on the left (or above if you’re reading this from a phone). Throughout an eight-month long process, I created this campaign from start to finish. It was done as a final project in my Bachelor of Digital Communications program at Humber College.

I chose to create a campaign centered around social anxiety as it is something I have dealt with for as long as I can remember. Now at age 21, I am able to continuously learn how social anxiety affects my life and adjust according to what best suits me.
