How Social Anxiety Disorder Affects People Differently

Youth

Social anxiety targets youth. Many factors, including: genetics, behavioural inhibition, and relationships between parents and a child, can all play a major impact in the development of social anxiety in children.

Racial Differences

Another factor to consider when thinking about social anxiety is the race of the individual. People of different races are affected differently. A study was done that analyzed African Americans, Latinos, and non-Latino Whites. It found that there are significant differences between perceived fears regarding social interaction, public speaking, and observations.

Students

Social anxiety can weight heavy on students and can affect their performance. A study amongst college students with social anxiety found that they think negatively about themselves and are worried about what others thought about them, which ultimately impacts their ability to properly fulfill their role as a student.
